Deck stairs are one of those things that fail slowly - until they don't. What starts as a little surface weathering turns into soft treads, wobbly stringers, and eventually a staircase that nobody should be stepping on. That's exactly what we were dealing with here. Multiple staircases that had been holding on way past their expiration date.

The before tells the whole story. Gray, weathered wood with paint peeling off the handrails. Treads that had gone soft and were pulling away from the structure. On one set, the stringers had actually started to lean and twist - the whole thing was on borrowed time. These weren't just ugly. They were a real liability for anyone using them.

We pulled everything out and started fresh. All new pressure-treated lumber throughout - stringers, treads, risers, posts, and railings. Each staircase was rebuilt to meet current code, which means proper riser height, consistent tread depth, and railings that are actually structurally sound. No shortcuts, no patching over problems.

What you end up with is a staircase that feels completely different underfoot. Solid. No flex, no wobble. The fresh pressure-treated wood is built to hold up against the elements for years without the kind of deterioration we were dealing with before. It's the kind of work where the difference is obvious the first time you grab the handrail and it doesn't move.

Deck repairs like this don't always get attention until something goes wrong. If your stairs are showing signs of rot, soft spots, or movement in the railings, it's worth getting eyes on them sooner rather than later. We handle everything from full stair rebuilds to deck repairs and replacements - and we build everything the right way the first time.
