Older homes don't always play by the rules. When a bulkhead opening is non-standard - like you find on a lot of older stone foundation homes - you can't just grab something off a shelf and call it a day. The original wood doors on this one were completely shot. Rotted, warped, and barely holding together. Not exactly keeping anything out.
Here's the thing with old bulkheads: the opening dimensions rarely match what's available at any hardware store. That's where most people get stuck. A standard replacement won't fit, and just patching the rotted wood buys maybe another season before you're dealing with the same problem again. We've seen it too many times.
So we took a different approach. Instead of forcing a standard solution into a non-standard space, we custom-fitted rigid white panels to work with the existing framing and stone foundation. Every cut was made to match the actual angles and dimensions of this specific opening - including lining the interior of the bulkhead shaft itself for a clean, finished look all the way down.
The result is solid, weather-resistant, and built to last a lot longer than the wood it replaced. No gaps, no improvised hacks. Just a clean, properly fitted solution that works with the home instead of fighting it. That's really what experienced problem-solving looks like on the job - you don't force the fix, you find the right one.
Not every repair has a straightforward answer, especially on older homes. If you've got a tricky situation around your house that nobody seems to know how to handle, that's exactly the kind of work we do.
